Mumbai police have announced that over 30,000 personnel will be deployed to make sure of a peaceful polling process during the Assembly elections on Wednesday, November 20. This includes home guards, riot-control teams, and officers from the transport department.
Preventive actions have been taken against 4,492 individuals ahead of the polls. Police operations since the implementation of the model code of conduct on October 15 have led to the seizure of illegal items worth INR 175 crore. The seized goods include cash, jewelry, drugs, and spirits.
More than 2,000 officers and 25,000 constables will be on duty across Mumbai. They will focus on securing polling places, protecting voters, and monitoring sensitive areas. Senior officers, including five additional police commissioners, 20 deputy commissioners, and eighty-three assistant commissioners, have been assigned to manage operations.
Riot-control squads will be on standby. Three teams, along with 144 additional officers from the transport department, will ensure smooth transport and voter movement. Over 4,000 home guards will assist in managing various election-related duties.
To maintain order in sensitive locations, 26 units from state and national security forces have been deployed. Aerial and special surveillance teams will monitor strategic areas to prevent any disturbances.
As per reports, strict preventive action has been taken against individuals identified as potential threats. The goal is to make the election process smooth and secure.
