Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has urged the authorities to fasten the developmental work across Mahabaleshwar in order to boost the tourism in Maharashtra.

In the meeting chaired by Pawar, officials sanctioned over INR 33.50 crore for the development of Mahabaleshwar. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar presided over the meeting at Sahyadri Guest House which was attended by Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Sunil Kedar, Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray, Cooperatives Minister Balasaheb Patil and Minister of State for Tourism Aditi Tatkare.

According to reports, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had earlier asked the tourism department to develop the Venna Lake and to increase the height of the Venna dam. The water storage capacity of the Venna dam, which supplies water to Mahabaleshwar, is also to be increased. Furthermore, it has been suggested that Mahabaleshwar be developed into an adventure, nature, religious, heritage, and agricultural tourism spot.

Mahabaleshwar which used to be the summer capital of the Bombay Presidency during the British rule is a hilly region located in the Western Ghats, in Satara district of Maharashtra is well known for its strawberries, rivers and majestic peaks.

Moreover, it is also a sacred pilgrimage place for Hindus as the Krishna river originates from here. Moreover, Mahabaleshwar is about 5 hours and 30 minutes from the city of Mumbai and is perfect to get away from the humidity of the city. You can take a bus from the city, or drive all the way up. The Pune International Airport is closest to Mahabaleshwar at 120 km.
