According to a latest report, nearly 38 per cent of the beneficiaries in Maharashtra have taken the booster jab in the first week.

As per Co-WIN data, until 3 pm on Monday, January 17, 3,40,355 individuals were administered the booster shot, of which 84,363 are from Mumbai and 32,629 are from Thane.

As the vaccination drive receives lukewarm response, a state COVID Task Force member said there is a need to reduce the eligibility condition for the booster dose in case a person has tested positive.

The official suggested that the number of days for taking booster doses needs to be reviewed. They should be allowed to such shots after 30 days.

The nationwide drive for the precautionary dose commenced on January 10. As per guidelines, such shots will be given to only those fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, on Day 1, in Mumbai only 10,698 senior citizens, healthcare and frontline workers, took their booster jab. Besides, Maharashtra administered 49,307 booster doses.

The Maharashtra government has constantly asked the citizens to get vaccinated against coronavirus, however, vaccine hesitancy and negligence has spread across many areas in Maharashtra, due to which many citizens have not got their second dose of the vaccine voluntarily.
