While the Atal Setu Bridge connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai gives a pleasant journey, it seems that there has been an increase in the incidents of people dying by jumping from this bridge.

A few months ago, 43-year-old female doctor Kinjal Shah ended her life by jumping from Atal Setu. Owing to which, the government and administration had decided to put barriers and cover the bridge to avoid such instances on Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL).

In a similar incident, a 38-year-old man climbed over the railings of the Atal Setu bridge, and jumped into the sea. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon, July 24, around 12.30 pm at a distance of about 13.5 kms away from Mumbai. The missing youth has been identified as Srinivasa Kurukutty (38) and the searched is on to find him.

The video of getting out of the car and jumping into the sea has gone viral and it is seen that this person stops the car in the middle of the road and gets down, closes the door of the car and jumps down from the edge of the bridge into the sea.

According to information received, Srinivas lives in Dombivli and was employed in Kuwait. He has taken this step out of frustration. Last October he quit his job and started his own business in Dombivli. But he was undergoing stress due to financial problems.

Relatives have informed that he tried to commit suicide earlier in Kuwait as well.

He is being searched at sea with the help of four fishing boats, maritime security guards. However, the police said that due to rough sea and rain, there are obstacles in the search operation.

It is pertinent to note that this is the third such incident across Mumbai in the last few days where a man has tried to kill himself by jumping in the sea. Shockingly, they all were suffering losses in the business and were dealing with stress.

A 65-year-old diamond merchant Sanjay Shah from South Mumbai allegedly died by suicide by jumping into the Arabian sea near the Gateway of India on Sunday morning, July 21.

Meanwhile, a Ghatkopar resident had ended his life on July 17 by jumping off the Worli-Bandra sea link.
