Dombivli Explosion: 6 dead, over 40 injured after massive fire breaks out at chemical factory

The incident took place at Amudan Chemicals Pvt Ltd in Dombivli East at around 1-1.30 pm. The sound of the blast was heard in a radius of 2 km.

According to a latest report, four people were killed and over 30 others were injured after a massive blast in the boiler of a chemical company in Dombivli area of the Thane district on Thursday afternoon, May 23.

The incident took place at Amudan Chemicals Pvt Ltd in Dombivli East at around 1-1.30 pm. The sound of the blast was heard in a radius of 2 km. The glass of nearby houses in the building broke after the explosion.

Officials stated that the rescue operation is still underway and the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has pressed nearly 10 fire engines to aid the operations.

The number of injured may go up as many workers and residents are still feared trapped in the factory in Dombivli’s MIDC phase-2 region. The injured have been rushed to Neptune Hospital and AIMS hospital in MIDC, they added.

Visuals from the incident site showed huge plumes of smoke coming out from the factory where the fire started. 

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and shared: "The incident of boiler explosion at Amudan Chemical Company in Dombivli MIDC is tragic. 8 people have been suspended. Arrangements have been made to treat the injured and more ambulances have been kept ready. I have discussed with the Collector. Teams of NDRF, TDRF, fire brigade have been called."

The reason behind the incident is still not known.
