Mumbai reported 494 new COVID-19 cases, 589 recoveries and eight deaths on Friday, January 29, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,08,057. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 5,417 active cases and 2,90,400 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,334 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 94 per cent. At present 27,73,166 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 198 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 2,219 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

On Friday, January 29, Maharashtra recorded 2,771 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 20,21,184. Currently, there are 43,147 active cases in the state. With 2,613 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 19,25,800.

More than 56 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 51,000. While 1,95,127 persons are under home quarantine, 2,771 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 95.28 per cent, and 2.52 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, India reported 13,083 new cases, 14,808 recoveries and 137 deaths taking the tally up to 1,07,33,131 on Friday, January 29. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,04,09,160 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,54,147 in the country. At present, there are 1,69,824 active cases. According to the ICMR, 19,58,37,408 samples have been tested up to January 26. So far, 35,00,027 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in the country.
