The Mumbai division of the Central Railway has kept inflatable boats and two drone cameras for Mumbai division ready for monsoon emergencies at five stations in the city. This arrangement has been made at Mumbai CSMT, Matunga, Kurla, Thane and Badlapur stations.

The boats will play a crucial role in ensuring swift and efficient rescue operations. Additionally, these boats and drone cameras will be used during heavy showers and floods to tackle emergency situations. They will be deployed across the entire Mumbai division of CR -- which is from CSMT to Karjat, Kasara and Panvel.

CR has taken proactive measures in collaboration with Railway Protection Force’s Railway Flood Rescue Team (RFRT) to ensure the safety and security of passengers in case of floods.

A dedicated railway flood rescue team consisting of 14 personnel has received training from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in Pune and will be deployed in flood-prone areas.

“A plan for crowd control and disaster management has also been drawn up and three dedicated disaster management teams, each comprising 15 RPF officers and staff members, have been formed. Moreover, to enhance relief activity monitoring, two drone cameras have been deployed, four personnel have received special training to operate these drones effectively,” official explained.

A standard operating procedure (SOP) has been circulated among all personnel in flood-related emergencies. Additionally, a mock drill was conducted at the railway dam at Palasdhari, Karjat to assess their preparedness. The exercise involved five inflatable boats, allowing trained personnel to practice rescue operations and ensure their readiness.
