In a shocking revelation, the state government found out that the 742 existing hospitals across the state have been violating rules and regulations, out of which, 500 hospitals have been declared illegal across Thane district. The state government has submitted the list to Bombay High Court in the form of an affidavit.
In order to shut down illegal hospitals, the HC asked the state government to verify 4,966 hospitals across the state including Mumbai. Upon investigation, it was found that 1,770 hospitals and nursing homes have been violating rules and regulations.
Along with this, when the state government officials checked a total number of 13,763 hospitals in Mumbai, Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Mira-Bhayander, Navi Mumbai and Vasai, 475 hospitals were found violating the rules and regulations.
Hospitals which were found to be violating rules and regulations, 329 hospitals were not registered under Bombay Nursing Home Registration. Also, 81 hospitals have been operated by bogus doctors.
