According to latest report, out of 2000 samples tested from Mumbai-Goa Cordelia cruise, 66 passengers have tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday evening, January 3.

The Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that the authorities will decide whether to allow disembarking of passengers from the ship.

This development came after at least 2,000 people are feared stuck on the Mumbai-Goa Cordelia cruise after a crew member tested positive for the coronavirus on Sunday night, January 2.

The state government didn’t let them disembark in Goa and all the passengers and crew members are now being tested. Meanwhile, the infected crew member is under isolation on the ship. The person was found positive in a rapid antigen test.

According to reports, all passengers have been instructed to not de-board from the ship until the results of RT-PCR are declared.

The Cordelia cruise ship is currently docked near Mormugao Port cruise terminal. Mumbai Port Trust did not allow the ship to dock in Goa.

Moreover, the minister also stated that four more Omicron cases were confirmed in Goa. Few samples that were sent to NIV Pune for genome sequencing have confirmed 4 more cases of Omicron in the state of Goa. In addition, one patient is from within the state of Goa, with no travel history, indicating indigenous spread which needs to be further examined.

Besides, as on Sunday, January 2, the tally of Omicron cases in Maharashtra surpassed the 500 threshold with an additional 50 cases, reports stated. Till now, the state has registered 510 confirmed cases of the highly transmissible variant of COVID-19
