
Central Railway (CR) has served its passengers with 862 Holi Special trains in addition to its regular trains, to facilitate celebration of Holi with their near and dear ones.
These special trains include fully air-conditioned specials, Unreserved specials and other trains with a combination of AC, Sleeper and General second class coaches scheduled to various popular destinations across the country.
These trains include 670 Holi Special trains run by Central Railway with an occupancy of 105.06%.
CR has run Holi special trains to various states as follows:
•409 trains for intra-state travel (within Maharashtra)
•142 trains to Uttar Pradesh,
•82 trains to Bihar
•21 trains to Goa
CR has transported 24.18 lakh passengers through its regular and special trains (including Holi specials) in the last 4 days (from 27.2.2026 to 02.03.2026) preceding the festival of Holi. This includes 7 lakh passengers from Mumbai.
These special trains are meticulously planned to connect key destinations across the country, catering to the Holi festival rush to the above states.
Planning and running of additional trains is a continuous process for which inputs are taken from all the communication channels 24x 7 like media reports, Social media platforms, Railway Integrated helpline number 139, apart from details of waitlist passengers in PRS system, to assess demand of trains on a particular route. Based on this requirement, number of trains and number of trips are augmented.
Central Railway has made extensive arrangements to cater to the surge in passenger demand during the ongoing festive season
These include:
•Provision of holding areas at major stations like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus(CSMT), Lokmanya Tilak Terminus(LTT), Pune etc to accommodate the rush of passengers.
•Provision of covered shed, adequate light, ventilation, drinking water, fans, toilets, charging points, food stalls and passenger address system have been done.
•Effective crowd management with a team of Ticket Checking Staff and RPF Personnel at major stations.
•Provision of Help desks at several stations for proper guidance of passengers.
•Provision of Mobile UTS Sahayaks at CSMT.
•Regular announcements regarding timings of trains and other important information are being made
•Queue formation for the boarding of the passengers under the watchful eyes of RPF personnel and Commercial staff is ensured.
•Real-time monitoring of ticket availability and passenger trends are being done with the help of AI and War rooms.
•Coordination with RPF and GRP for safety and security at major stations is being maintained.
•Wide publicity of Holi special trains by sharing of information to the media and public through press releases and on social media platforms.
With the efficient arrangements, enhanced passenger services, and a commitment to convenience and care, Central Railway ensures that every passenger during his or her rail journey during the festive season is served well.
