Recently released data reported that several members of Mumbai's BEST, who provide transportation services to the essential workers, during these tough times, were also infected by the virus. An update regarding the same has now revealed that a total of eight workers have died fighting coronavirus. This growing number has created an atmosphere of panic among them.

BEST's health department has also conducted medical examinations of 14,486 workers and as a preventive measure, 1,000 workers who came in contact with the COVID-19 positive staff have been quarantined at home. Further, more than two thousand workers who are at risk and unwell, have been advised to stay at home.

On the other hand, 971 of these workers who are now fit and healthy, have returned for their service.

The impact of coronavirus has also affected their daily lives, as BEST employees, who work in the time of crisis, are facing a financial crisis. It is learned that the department does not have money to pay their April salaries, but the staff and the corporation, despite this, has once again stepped forward in extending a helping hand.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had given a grant of ₹1,500 crores to BEST, out of which ₹125 crores have been used to give salaries for the month of April 2020.
