Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday urged the stranded migrant workers and labourers in the state to not walk on roads as the state government was making provisions for their travels.

“The trains have been announced for the migrants to go to their respective home states. Maharashtra government has started bus services to drop them off in a safe manner. I request you to stay wherever you are and not risk lives by walking,” Uddhav Thackeray said during his address on social media.

The Chief Minister further stated that the state government was not asking migrant workers and labourers to pay for their tickets as it has been taken care through the Chief Minister Relief Fund (CMRF). Over 5 lakh migrants have gone to their respective states via trains and buses, Thackeray added.

Thackeray further addressed the concerns of those who want to travel in the state and appealed them to stay patient while saying that some of them want to go to areas which are green zones.

“We have to ensure that the green zones remain the same way and are not infected. We have to ensure that the red zones turn into green zones,” Thackeray said.

Speaking on the coronavirus situation in Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray said that there is no vaccine or medicine for coronavirus as of now and informed that the state government was building 1,484 COVID-19 centres with nearly 2.5 beds.

Moreover, the Chief Minister informed that the state government has set up a 1,000-bed hospital in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in just 10 to 12 days. “It will be ready for use in just 2-3 days,” Thackeray said.

Uddhav Thackeray also pointed out that the lockdown was necessary as the state government doesn’t intend to close again if the cases rise. “Suppose we lift the lockdown and the coronavirus spreads like it did in Brazil, United States of America and Italy. We don’t want this to happen in Maharashtra,” the Chief Minister said.

On May 17, the centre extended the lockdown till May 31 to contain the spread of the coronavirus or COVID-19. The cases in India are nearing one lakh and has risen to 96,169 while the death toll is 3,025. The Maharashtra government also extended the lockdown till May 31.

As of May 18 morning, the number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra has increased to 33,053 and the death toll has risen to 1,198. Mumbai has crossed the 20,000-mark with 20,105 cases and the death toll in the city has increased to 734.

India has been under a nationwide lockdown till March 25 and today marks the first day of the fourth phase of the same. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) also issued guidelines for the lockdown 4.0 listing the activities which are allowed and prohibited.
