Centre extends lockdown till May 31: Here are the guidelines issued by MHA

India has been under the nationwide lockdown since March 25 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and will enter fourth phase on May 18 which will last till May 31. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued guidelines for the lockdown 4.0.

The centre has extended the nationwide lockdown till May 31 as the number of cases for the coronavirus or COVID-19 rise to 90,927. The order issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) directs the Departments of Government of India, State Governments and State Authorities to extend the lockdown measures till May 31.

Not Allowed

Although the Indian Railways has started limited trains for passengers, the domestic air travel remains prohibited under the lockdown 4.0 except domestic air ambulance. In the guidelines issued by the MHA, metro services along with educational institutions will remain closed till May 31.

Moreover, the restaurants shall be permitted to operate kitchens for home delivery of food items while hotels, and other hospitality services will remain closed except those meant for housing, healthcare workers orthe ones serving as quarantine facilities.

Barring the religious congregation, the MHA guidelines have prohibited to open the religious places. All political, social, entertainment, academic, cultural, religious functions and other large gathering are also not permitted under the lockdown 4.0. 


Allowed with restrictions, except in containment zones

The centre has allowed the inter-state movement of passenger vehicles and buses but with mutual consent of the states and Union Territories (UTs) involved. The intra-state movement of passenger vehicles and buses should be allowed as decided by the states and UTs, as per the guidelines. 

“Within the red and orange zones, the containment zones and buffer zones will be demarcated by the district authorities, after taking into consideration the guidelines of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW),” the guideline read while adding that only essential activities will be permitted in containment zones.

The MHA also said that the delineation of red, orange and green zones will be decided by respective States and UTs government. 

Earlier, the Maharashtra Government on Sunday issued an order extending the lockdown till midnight of May 31 to contain the spread of the coronavirus or COVID-19 in the state. As per the order dated May 17 signed by Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta, the state executive committee has issued directions to extend the lockdown till May 31.
