BMC allocate ₹8,000 crore for construction of Mumbai Coastal Road

With Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) standing committee finally approving a proposal of worth ₹8,000 crore, it has opened way for the construction work for Mumbai Coastal Road Construction Project. The tender for the project has been issued to three companies – Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), and Hyundai Development Company (HDC).

The construction of Mumbai’s coastal road will be on city’s coastline from Nariman Point to Malad’s Marve. For the project, a proposal worth ₹8,000 crore has been approved by the standing committee. From Prince Street to Baroda Palace, the construction of the coastal road will be carried out by L&T and HCC will construct the from Baroda Palace to Bandra-Worli sea link.

Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP) project will include the construction, of roads by filling debris, bridges, advance roads, tunnels in different areas. A total of 35.60 km long coastal road will be constructed on Mumbai’s coastline.

According to the plan prepared by the consultants, the coastal road’s construction will be undertaken from Prince Street Flyover to Priyadarshani Udyan (Package 4), from Priyadarshani Udyan to Baroda Palace (Package 1), from Baroda Palace to Bandra Worli Sea Face to South end (Package 2).

The construction will be undertaken in these three phases. L&T has been given the responsibility to manage and construct Package 4 and 1. Package 2 will be constructed by HCC and HDC. MCRP chief engineer Mohan Macheeval informed that the tendering process has been completed.

He further informed that for Package 4, the budget allocated is ₹3505 crore, for package 1 ₹278 crore, and for package 2 the allocated funds are ₹2126 crore.
