Mumbai: Number of patients recovering from COVID-19 increases

On Sunday, April 25, Mumbai recorded 5,543 patients testing positive for the coronavirus whereas 64 people succumbed to the disease. Compared to the tests, the number of victims has also come down to 13.75 per cent.

Moreover, the number of patients recovering from COVID-19 is also said to be increasing, with 86 per cent of patients becoming coronavirus-free. Meanwhile, the number of patients undergoing treatment in Mumbai is also declining. This number had gone beyond 92,000. It is now 75,740. Of these, 77 per cent or 62,000 patients have no symptoms, while 22 per cent or 17,000 patients have symptoms. The number of critically ill patients has gone up to 1,421.

On the other hand, joining other states, the state government on Sunday, announced that it will vaccinate all those above 18 years free of cost from May 1. In addition, Cabinet Minister Nawab Malik stated that the government plans to float a global tender to attract international vaccines as part of the state's immunisation drive. Clarifying that the Centre will not offer free vaccines to those below 18 years, he added that currently Covishield cost INR 400/dose and Covaxin INR 600/dose for the state government while Centre's procurement was at INR 150/dose.

Furthermore, in order to curb the instances of coronavirus cases, state-wide section 144 has been imposed and night curfew from 8 PM to 7 AM, with movement being barred in public places without valid reasons, except people in essential services.
