On Friday morning, a portion of a godown collapsed at Bhiwandi’s Harihar compound Dapoda village nearly 33 km away from Mumbai.

According to the Bhiwandi Nizampur City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC), the godown of Monginis cake is located in the rural part of the Bhiwandi. The factory used to make cakes and bakery products for Mumbai and its suburbs, however, the building was in poor condition.

As per eyewitnesses, as the first floor fell, the lower floor collapsed in a short time due to its weight. There were five people in the factory at the time of the accident who were safely evacuated. The incident took place around 4.45 am when the first floor of the building collapsed. Five workers present in the godown were buried under the debris and were evacuated by firemen. Three of them suffered minor injuries. The injured have been identified as Kelkar (43), Shamim Hussain (25) and Ravindra Jadhav (50). The workers are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

In view of the dilapidated structures across the city, earlier, a total of five structures were identified - Colaba Chambers, Karimbhai Manor, Mohammadbhoy Mansion, Mehmood Building, Mahim Mansion, whose conditions were worsening. Moreover, the government is said to be looking at providing them with a society and a consultant will soon be appointed. Additional actions will also be taken immediately, once the report is submitted regarding relevant work.
