On Wednesday, June 29, a leopard was rescued from a school in Mumbai's Goregaon, reported the news agency ANI. According to the report, the animal entered a school in Goregaon East's Bimbisar Nagar area on Tuesday, June 28 night.

Later, it was spotted by a security guard. It was reportedly hiding in the school's washroom.

Based on the account, after receiving the distress call, the Thane forest department's Mumbai range rescue team and a team from the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) rescued the animal in the early hours of Wednesday.

It has been reported that the big cat was tranquillized before being rescued from the premises. This was done because redirecting it to the forest was not possible.

The narrative suggests that before being released into the wild, the animal was taken to the SGNP for medical examination.

Girija Desai, a Forest Department official while interacting with the media elaborated on how there is forest-like vegetation in the vicinity. She added that the animal entered the campus of the school on Tuesday night and got confined to the washroom. She also shared that they have successfully managed to rescue the leopard.

On the other hand, earlier in January, footage from a CCTV camera was doing the rounds in media which showed a leopard roaming freely in the building premises in Goregaon East’s Gokuldham.
