In a heart-wrenching incident, a new born baby girl was found in a drain near Ramabai Nagar in Ghatkopar.

The 12-day old infant was rescued by a women-led Nirbhaya team of Mumbai Police after it was spotted by some locals near Pantnagar.

According to a tweet by the Mumbai Police, the baby, wrapped in a cloth, was found after some cats on the streets starting creating ruckus and alerted the residents living nearby.

She has been named Pari (fairy) and is under observation at a suburban hospital, however, she is safe now and recovering.

It has come to light that the she was in the drain for an hour at least. The infant was lucky that she did not drown, choke or freeze to death. Though a prompt response from the police officials played a major role in saving the newborn.

"The baby was rushed to Rajawadi (hospital) by the Nirbhaya Squad of Pantnagar police station and is now safe and recovering," the police said in a tweet posted alongside a picture of officials with the child.

Pantnagar police have filed an FIR against her unidentified parents for abandoning her and are looking for them.

The identity of the baby's parents or the people who dumped it is still unknown.
