On Sunday, November 21, evening, four people were killed and eight were injured when their overcrowded van rammed into a container at Manor in Palghar district, on Mumbai-Ahemdabad National Highway. After visiting Virar's Goddess Ekvira temple, they were returning home.

Among the four killed, one included a two-year-old girl. There were two children aged two and three, respectively, out of the eight injured. On Sunday morning, they left in an Eeco van for the temple, states reports. There were nine adults in the van, including the driver.

Inspector Pradeep Kabse said that eye-witnesses told him that driver lost the control of the vehicle when they reached Avandani village near Dahanu. At around 6 PM, the van rammed into a multi-axle container on the Gujarat lane. Those seated in the front died on the spot.

The locals rushed to help the victims. The residents pulled out those seated in the rear seats as the front side of the van was crushed. The two minors suffered minor injuries as they were seated on the laps of the adults.

The police have registered a case of accidental death and said that preliminary investigations suggest that driver was at fault. They will register an FIR under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections and Motor Vehicles Act.
