The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday, August 17, predicted active light to moderate rainfall spells in Mumbai for the next two to three days.

This comes after Mumbai received its heaviest showers of August between Sunday, August 15 and Monday, August 16, after a subdued rainfall earlier this month.

Moreover, IMD has also issued a warning of heavy to heavy rainfall in isolated parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada, central Maharashtra and Konkan for the next three days.

“Parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra are covered with clouds, as seen in the latest satellite observations,” tweeted K S Hosalikar, Scientist Head of SID, Climate and Research Services in Pune.

The department also said that Mumbai and adjoining areas of Palghar, Thane and south Konkan districts— Raigad and Ratnagiri are likely to receive very heavy rainfall at isolated places on Wednesday, August 18. In view of the heavy rains, the weather department has issued an 'Orange Alert' for today.

Accordingly, an orange Alert has been issued for three subdivisions of interior Maharashtra - Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, and Vidarbha.

On the other hand, a reduction in rainfall intensity has also been predicted from Thursday onwards.

According to reports, the city has recorded a total of 2,218mm of rainfall this monsoon season between June 1 and August 16, exceeding the seasonal average rainfall of 2,205 mm.
