Plastic ban has been effective in all of Maharashtra including Mumbai in order to curb the pollution caused by plastic. Recently, an inspection was conducted in order to nab the plastic users. On June 23, plastic was banned in Mumbai and till now 1.25 lakh shops have been inspected by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
BMC has formed a team especially to prevent the use of plastic bags and fine the defaulters. The team can levy a fine of up to ₹5000 if they find a shopkeeper using plastic bags. Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Chaudhary stated that till now ₹54,65,000 has been collected in form of the fine.
However, Samajwadi Party leader Ritesh Sheikh has demanded from the BMC that they should provide relief on black bags to people on Bakri Eid.
