Amid a sharp rise in the number of coronavirus cases since the last few days in the city, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar has said that she would visit the malls to create awareness about the use of face masks. She will also be guiding people to follow COVID-related norms.

On February 23, Pednekar visited Dadar vegetable market and distributed masks among those who were roaming without wearing masks and created awareness. On the same day, Pednekar had visited the Shivaji Park and reminded those without masks to take all COVID-19 precautions when they step out.

Earlier, on February 17, the Mayor also travelled in local trains to urge the citizens to use face masks in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in the city. Later, Pednekar along with a civic team conducted a raid on a hotel in Santacruz where several people who returned from Gulf countries were quarantined as part of the COVID-19 protocols, the official said.

Now, it has been observed that the crowd has been increasing in malls and pubs. Moreover, night clubs in Mumbai continue to flout COVID-19 norms. Yesterday, March 4, clubs in Juhu and in Ville Parle weren't just found to be operating beyond 2 am but were also flouting all rules including not maintaining social distancing.

As a result, the mayor has ordered strict action against the owners and citizens under section 199 against those violating the rules.

The crowd in pubs along with the staff and owners will also be prosecuted. Meanwhile, the pub owner will be subjected to the Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Act (MRTP), 1969.

On March 4, Mumbai witnessed more than 1,100 fresh cases.
