The families of the security guards who were promised of ₹50 lakhs after the guards succumbed to the coronavirus are yet to receive the compensation by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

Pawar had promised of the same nearly two months back. Moreover, in the last six months, 25 security guards working at several government units have succumbed to the disease. About 1.73 lakh security guards are currently working for the civic body, civic hospitals, agencies and other government units across the state. They are also registered under the Security Guards Board.

This comes as fresh news of disappointment as the state fails to fulfil promises to the bereaved families, especially during the times of the pandemic.

Earlier, Pawar and ex-CM Devendra Fadnavis had inaugurated a COVID-19 hospital at Pimpri Chinchwad in the Pune district. Addressing the event, the leaders stated that the even though the situation with regards to the coronavirus is worrisome, Pune has increased testing achieving recovery rate to 85 per cent which is a source of good news.

In the past, Fadnavis had unsuccessfully partnered with Ajit Pawar to be sworn-in as Maharashtra CM for a mere 72 hours. Ajit Pawar rescinded his support after the Supreme Court ordered an open ballot floor test in the Maharashtra Assembly immediately, leading to Fadnavis and Pawar's resignation. As a result, on November 28, Uddhav Thackeray was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra after Shiv Sena allied with NCP-Congress to form the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
