Experts believe that the rise in cases is due to the social interaction and activities which have improved over the last few weeks.

Coronavirus cases in the city of Mumbai are increasing, and the city recorded the highest number of patients of the year on Thursday, March 18, 2021. 

As per the report released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the worst affected areas include Andheri, Jogeshwari and Vile Parle. Records state that over 1300 patients have been found in these areas in the last one week, and the number of patients undergoing treatment is also high in these areas.

Rise in the number of patients has increased rapidly over the past month, and some areas have been hotspots since the last few weeks. Officials have started taking strict action in Mulund, Andheri and Jogeshwari areas. 

According to the statistics released last week, areas in Andheri and Jogeshwari have been under the radar. The average COVID-19 growth rate in Mumbai as a whole is 0.51 per cent, while in Andheri West it is 0.81 per cent. The average doubling rate in the city is 136 days, where it is 86 days in this area. Experts believe that the rise in cases is due to the social interaction and activities which have improved over the last few weeks. Vile Parle, Andheri and Jogeshwari are promiment localities in mumbai and are visited by many for recreational purposes. Several visitors travel by metro and also visit the popular Juhu Chowpatty. Observing this, the local administration offices have tightened the preventive measures.

The number of daily tests have also increased whereby 700 to 1000 tests are being conducted per day. Action is being taken against those who do not wear masks when in public and the number of clean-up marshals at Juhu Chowpatty has also been increased.
