At least 200 citizens residing in a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) building at Mumbai’s four bungalows have reportedly stated that the open space in their area has been encroached upon by the developer.
Moreover, this has left the inhabitants with no recreational ground. According to a report in mid-day, about 90 makeshift tents have been set up on the plot. However, when complained to the authority, no response was received from the officials' end. In addition, the residents have rejected the claim of the developer stating that the project is yet to be completed.
Furthermore, the members of Andheri Kamgar Nagar Co-operative Housing Society limited stated the nearly 1,8000-sqft open space was to be handed over by the developer to the SRA. The SRA had earlier cleared the slum pocket in order to provide for a private complex that was constructed back in 2004.
On the other hand, earlier on June 23, the Maharashtra government approved the redevelopment of Goregaon’s Siddharth Nagar, also known as Patra Chawl. This move by the government is touted to provide major relief to 672 residents of Mumbai.
Moreover, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray directed the officials to carry out the redevelopment work in a time-bound manner. According to reports, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) will develop the project and give possession of flats to the 672 residents. In addition, it is touted to finish the remaining works in 306 flats in buildings, for which a lottery draw was held, before handing over the flats to the lottery winners.
