The state government of Maharashtra, on Thursday, November 12, announced the decision to give INR 2,000 as Diwali bonus to Anganwadi workers across the state.

Sharing the information, Minister for Women and Child Development, Adv. Yashomati Thakur stated that the Anganwadi workers and helpers have been instrumental in delivering home-cooked food to millions of children and breastfeeding mothers in Maharashtra, and have supported the state during the crisis, especially in 'My Family, My Responsibility' campaign. The step is an appreciation from the government for their tireless work during the COVID-19 crisis.

The state currently has a total of 93,348 Anganwadi workers, 88,353 Anganwadi helpers and 11,341 mini Anganwadi workers. Bonus will be distributed to all the staff members, and the government has arranged a fund of INR 38.61 crore for the same. The decision was recently taken after consulting with the concerned members in the government and respective bodies.

Adding more, Adv. Yashomati Thakur said that the workers' efforts to deliver nutritious food by walking door to door, and by overcoming various difficulties such as visiting in remote areas or crossing the river by boat, deserved appreciation. She also stated that the teams looked after the children of migrant workers, which help the state shine and achieve a lot more, even by reaching the top of the list in the Nutrition Month program.

Participation of workers in the COVID-free Maharashtra drive is also worthy of appreciation, whereby women played an important role in the 'My Family, My Responsibility' campaign. She said that the government is proud of their work, and to make their Diwali happier, officials will ensure the same is implemented before Bhaubij (or Bhai Dooj).
