The Maharashtra government has exempted electric vehicles from toll on Atal Setu, promoting sustainable transport. The policy, effective from Friday, August 22, also plans to exempt the Mumbai-Pune and Samruddhi Expressways, aimed at reducing emissions and promoting clean transport.
Electric vehicles in Maharashtra are now exempted from toll on Atal Setu, a significant move supporting the state's sustainable transport initiatives. After the announcement of this policy in April under the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy, both private and government electric four-wheelers are getting full exemption from toll.
The measure aims to soon provide toll exemption to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and Samruddhi Expressway as well. The EV toll exemption reflects Maharashtra's intent to reduce carbon emissions, tackle harmful pollutants, and promote clean transport solutions. Under the Maharashtra EV Policy, electric mobility has been given several benefits, including toll exemption on major highways.
Electric four-wheelers and buses plying on major routes like Atal Setu will get toll exemption, while electric four-wheelers will get a 50% discount on other state and national highways managed by the Public Works Department. Vehicles eligible for toll exemption include private electric cars, passenger four-wheelers, state transport buses and urban public transport electric vehicles, although electric freight vehicles are excluded from the exemption.
