Keeping the spread of coronavirus infection in mind, several government-supported and private companies in the state have revised their guidelines to ensure employee safety. While the protocols are made mandatory, companies are relying on technology to map attendance and implementing new methods which result in fewer devices being touched. This way, the employees would not catch the infection and stay safe in the best ways possible.

Following the same, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also taken a decision to install face detection devices with which employees can register their attendance at the offices. Reports state that these systems will be installed across all the divisional offices of the municipal corporation, and the work for the same has begun. Officials are currently collecting the information of the employees and soon this will be mandatory for the office-bearers and workers of the civic body.

Earlier used biometric attendance at the municipality was discontinued in March 2020 when the city was hit by the COVID-19 infection and the same began to increase. However, the attendance was resumed after three months and there was no method used to avoid the risk of spreading. Several staff members opposed the same, and the trade unions had demanded an alternative to biometric attendance. Considering their requests, the team has planned to use this technology as an option whereby the attendance will be registered on the computer, by scanning employees face using the camera.

Preparations for the same have been made by the electrical and mechanical department of the BMC and this attendance system has already been started at Mumbai's Nair Hospital. The team at the hospital is working on collecting information and this will continue till November 24, 2020, at the Municipal Corporation's Ward-D located at Grant Road.
