By August 4 morning, 89 per cent water had accumulated in Barvi Dam of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, which provides water to Thane district. Due to the heavy rains on August 3, Saturday, seven percent water was filled in the dam in just 24 hours. About 200 mm of rain was recorded in the dam area in 24 hours on Saturday. Hence, Barvi Dam directly reached 89 percent from 82 percent.

Most of the municipal corporation, municipalities and industrial estates in Thane district are supplied with water from Barvi Dam. Everyone hopes that the Barvi Dam, which is under the jurisdiction of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, will be filled to its full capacity during the monsoon season.

This year, the water level of Barvi Dam had dropped to 25 percent due to the delay in monsoon. In the month of July, the water level of the dam increased due to continuous rain. For the first three weeks, the Barvi dam was slowly accumulating water. However, due to the heavy rains in the last week of July, there was satisfactory water storage in Barvi Dam.

In the three days from July 24 to 26, the water storage of Barvi dam increased rapidly. On July 23, the water storage in Barvi Dam was 51 percent. On July 26, there was 68 percent water storage in the dam. Due to these three to four days of rain, the Barvi Dam filled rapidly. But after that, the Barvi dam was filling up slowly due to rain again. On Saturday, around 200 mm of rain was recorded in the Barvi dam area. This led to a rapid increase in the water level of Barvi Dam.

The water storage in Barvi Dam was 82 percent on Saturday and it reached 89 percent on Sunday. If the rainfall continues like this, it is expected that the 12th dam will be filled to its full capacity in the next few days. On Sunday, the water level of Barvi dam was up to 71.40 metres. The dam currently holds 301 million cubic metres of water. But compared to last year, this water storage is less. Last year on August 4, Barvi Dam was full to capacity.
