The wedding market in the country has been impacted in a major way in the lockdown phase. However, now with things getting back to normal, there are a lot of people are looking at tying a knot. With social distancing norms still in play, most wedding are turning out to be intimate affairs. In addition to this most states have restriction on the number of guests that can take part in a wedding to make sure that large gatherings are avoided at all times. 

A newly married couple in the Palghar district did an exemplary job. After getting married at a local church, they donated 50 beds to a COVID care centre in Vasai. According to a news report in Free Press Journal, the wedding was a close-knit affair. 

Maharashtra is one of the worst-hit states in the country and the state government is trying hard to break the chain and get the outbreak in control. In these tough times, a noble gesture like this will help strengthen the existing infrastructure.  

On Tuesday, even Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the Governor of Maharashtra, has donated ₹1,00,000 for the treatment of postal staff infected by the coronavirus.

According to the official release, the amount includes prize money won by the governor in the Department of Posts’ letter writing competition apart from the personal contribution.

In a statement issued by Raj Bhavan, it said that the Governor handed over a cheque of ₹1,00,000 which has been addressed to the Maharashtra Postal Circle Welfare Fund to Chief Post Master General of Maharashtra Harish Chandra Agarwal. The amount includes ₹25,000 which the Governor had won in a letter-writing competition and his personal contribution of ₹75,000 to help the postal staff.

Koshyari had earlier won the first prize in the Department of Posts' letter-writing competition for his essay in Hindi 'Bapu, Aap Amar Hai'. The competition named 'Dhai Akhar' was organised on the occasion of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi which was held in November 2019 with more than 80,000 participants.

As of June 22, 2020, the COVID-19 tally of Maharashtra surged to 1,35,796 after 3,721 new novel coronavirus cases were reported in the state on Monday. Currently, there are 61,793 active cases in the state. With 1,962 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 67,706.

There have been 62 deaths, 20 from Mumbai, 13 from Mira-Bhayandar, 9 from Pune, 8 from Malegaon, 4 from Aurangabad, two from Akola and one each from Kalyan-Dombivali, Ulhasnagar, Palghar, Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and Latur were reported on Monday. Until now, a total of 6283 persons have died in the wake of coronavirus. So far, 7,87,419 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus in laboratories operational across the state. While 6,01,182 people are said to be under home quarantine, 26,910 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in Maharashtra stand at 49.86 per cent and 4.63 per cent presently.
