1000-bed COVID-19 facility in Byculla East to be operational by the end of June

The number of coronavirus cases in the city of Mumbai has been increasing over the last few days and observing the same officials are trying to set up as many medical facilities to ensure safety and availability of treatment. Following this initiative. reports state that the construction work of a 1000-bed facility in Byculla (East) is in its final stages. 

The treatment centre is being set up on a temporary basis in the premises of the popular Richardson and Cruddas company, under the jurisdiction of the central government, and the facility will be operational by the end of June 2020. 

As per the reports, out of the 1000 beds, 300 will be assigned as oxygen beds. A total of 500 staff including 50 doctors 100 nurses and 150 attendants along with other medical staff will be present at the facility. Besides this ambulances and other medical equipment will also be made available by the officials. 

The construction of this COVID-19 facility began on June 10, 2020. The team from the municipal corporation has worked day and night to construct the same, with an aim to make the facility ready within the 15 to 20 days. 

It is said the doctor Pramod Ashtekar Health officer of circle 1 and Dr Nipa Matha, Medical Health Officer will be in charge of the medical matters at the facility 

Over the last few months, the BMC and with the state government have already set up many such facilities in Mumbai, which include NSCI dome in Worli, NESCO exhibition Centre in Goregaon and the MMRDA grounds in Bandra Kurla Complex.
