BMC All Set To Build Two New ROBs At Mahalaxmi

Currently, 5000 vehicles pass from Mahalaxmi Bridge every hour. Similar to the Bandra Worli Sea Link, the ROBs will be a cable-stayed bridge which will connect Keshavrao Khade Marg to Racecourse and Saat Rasta to Dhobi Ghat.

In order to manage the crowd heading towards Haji Ali and Worli Naka from Mahalaxmi Station in the Western Railway (WR), officials at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have announced the construction of two Road Over Bridges (ROBs) ta the station. This will, in turn, ease traffic congestion in the area.

Currently, 5000 vehicles pass from Mahalaxmi Bridge every hour. Similar to the Bandra Worli Sea Link, the ROBs will be a cable-stayed bridge which will start from Keshavrao Khade Marg leading to Mahalaxmi Racecourse. This bridge will provide connectivity to the Haji Ali junction. The other bridge will be on the northern side of Saat Rasta and will be connecting to Dhobi Ghat which in turn will provide connectivity to Worli Naka.

The former will enable 2,500 vehicles plying on it per hour while the latter will have the capacity of 3,500 vehicles. The estimated cost for the project is ₹507 crores and is expected to be completed by 2022. There is an intersection at Haji Ali for the coastal road project’s east-west connectivity.

People heading towards South Mumbai will have to take the Coastal Road and land at the Haji Ali Juice Centre junction. From there they will take the new cable-stayed bridge, which will go over the railway tracks and culminate at New Shirin Theatre.
