Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided that food deliveries will be permitted after 11 PM in Mumbai on December 31, 2020.
This comes hours after the civic body had informed that food takeaways and home deliveries won't be permitted in Mumbai after 11 PM. Moreover, BMC additional municipal commissioner Suresh Kakani with regards to the night curfew had stated that home delivery services would be prohibited during the curfew timings.
Hotels and restaurants have welcomed this move to allow take away orders beyond 11 PM. Shivanand Shetty, President of the Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHAR), talking about this development to Mumbai Live said, “We are happy on this last-minute announcement after taking into account our point on having at least the timing extended. Our customers will heave a sigh of relief as they can ring in the New Year without much chaos on the stocking of food. We will ask our members to strictly abide by all the rules and regulations governing our operations during the night curfew. We also request this to be conveyed to all those enforcing the prohibitory orders, so that customers who come down to collect their takeaways and also the staff involved in home deliveries don’t feel hassled.”
The state government had earlier decided on a night curfew on December 31 from 11 PM to 5 AM due to which hotels across Mumbai have to ring in the New Year by 10:30 PM instead of midnight in view of the official guidelines put forth by the authorities. On Wednesday, December 30, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh too had iterated the same further adding that pubs and bars will have to down their shutters at 11 pm whereas in-dine services will not be permitted after the said time.
