Prophet Mohammad's birth anniversary is celebrated with a great enthusiasm with a procession held every year from Byculla to Haj House near Manish Market in Masjid West. Every year, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Standing Committee grants ₹25 lakhs for the procession, however, this year it had granted a whopping ₹2 crores for the same. 

Prophet Mohammad's 100th birth anniversary was celebrated on November 10. The office-bearers of the Khilafat Movement had demanded more funds from the Standing Committee Chairman, Yashwant Jadhav, on Thursday, November 7.

Talking about the same Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar stated that since the civic authorities spend crores of rupees for festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Ambedkar Jayanti, it should also provide adequate funds for similar functions of the Muslim community.

Yashwant Jadhav said, “It is a historic decision taken for the first time in any of the municipal corporation of the country and surely it will send out a good message and create social harmony".
