The Standing Committee of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday approved the contract for cleaning the Waringpada stretch of the Chimbai seashore in Bandra.

The BMC awarded a contract worth INR 10 million to M/s MTS Blue Roadlines for a period of 730 days to carry out the cleaning of the seashore.

The contract includes the Waringpada section of the Chimbai seashore, which is approximately 1.5 kilometers long and 25 meters wide. The daily cost of cleaning this seashore is around INR 13,000.

Chimbai seashore, one of the seven major seashores in mumbai, was once considered one of the most polluted areas in the city. However, local residents say the situation has significantly improved over the past few years.

During the discussion, several standing committee members emphasiSed that the BMC should not only approve contracts but also properly supervise the cleaning work. Congress corporator Tulip Miranda stated that constant monitoring of the seashore’s cleanliness is necessary.

Shiv Sena corporator Yamini Jadhav suggested that the municipal corporation should deploy a flying squad to regularly inspect the seashores and ensure proper maintenance.
