According to the latest reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) budget for the 2022-23 financial year will be announced on Thursday, February 3. An account by the Times of India states that the outlay is anticipated to augment at nearly 7-8 per cent and cross INR 40,000 crore.

Based on the account, no new taxes are likely to be proposed considering the approaching BMC elections. However, a nominal rise in charges for water and other services is anticipated.

Experts believe that healthcare, infrastructure and education will get a significant boost. With a possible allocation being set aside for beautification of traffic islands as well as footpaths, cited the account.

The narrative adds that funds will be put aside for Mumbai’s Climate Action Plan (MCAP). Last year, the BMC had laid out a capital expenditure of INR 18,750.99 crore as well as a healthcare outlay of INR 4,728 crore.

A senior civic official was quoted by the report elaborating on how this year the capital expenditure will equal the revenue expenditure. Moreover, officials are also of the opinion that money for monumental infrastructural projects such as the Coastal Road, desalination plant, Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, waste to energy plant and expenditure on roads and bridges are likely to surge.
