In order to decongest Dadar, one of the busiest localities in the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has undertaken a 15-day special drive for cracking down illegal hawkers.

BMC’s G north ward along with the local police team cracked down on 750 illegal hawkers across Dadar.

Under this drive, the important roads such as area outside Dadar station, Jawale Road, D'silva Road, Ranade Road and NC Kelkar Road are now hawker-free, claims the civic body.

It is a well-known fact that Dadar is one of the favourite destinations in Mumbai for shopping. The station which connects Western and Central rail lines is surrounded by vegetable and flower markets that witness a daily footfall in lakhs.

Apart from that, other important roads like Ranade Road and D'silva Road are surrounded by hawkers, making it difficult for the citizens to even walk. Therefore, after failed efforts by the civic marshals, the BMC’s team from the encroachment removal department of G North ward took action after receiving several complaints from citizens.

Six inspectors from the encroachment removal department and 20 civic labourers took part in the drive against the hawkers and seized goods that filled six trucks.

Officials have ensured to continue this drive on regular basis in Dadar to keep it hawker-free.

Meanwhile, it has come to light that during this drive, a few hawkers attacked our team during the action, but no one was injured. They have registered a complaint against those hawkers at the local police station.
