According to reports, data from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) highlights that it has finished 99 per cent of the pre-monsoon nullah cleaning work. Based on accounts, desilting from eastern suburbs and minor nullahs is 100 per cent finished. On the other hand, work in the western suburb, island city and Mithi River could be completed in the next few days, data says. 

It has been reported that data from the BMC elucidates that it has attained 99.13 per cent of nullah-desilting across the city. Narratives suggest that there are five rivers and 309 major nullahs in Mumbai. Major nullahs stretch to 290-km and the 508 minor nullahs are spread across 605-km. In aggregate, Mumbai has a 2004-km-long drain and nullah network.

Officials from the Storm Water Drainage (SWD) department were quoted in reports elaborating on how for this year, the BMC set a target of removing 9.10 lakh metric tonnes of silt from all nullahs before Mumbai rains commence. To date, 9.03 lakh metric tonnes of the slit have been removed, accounts mention. 

Data further elaborates that in the island city, 97.50 per cent of the target has been removed till May 28. Likewise, in the western suburbs, 97.05 per cent of the work has been finished. Similarly, Mithi River has seen 95.70 per cent completion of the target desilting. 

It is anticipated that the pre-monsoon work could be completed by May 31. Previously, the civic body was criticized for the delay in nullah-cleaning work. Following this, BMC Chief, Iqbal Singh Chahal proclaimed that the civic authority will work in two-shift to complete the nullah cleaning
