According to the latest reports, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has directed that the pre-monsoon nullah cleaning work is done in two shifts in order to ensure that the work is completed on time. 

In addition to this, Chahal has also asked contractors and civic officials to record videos of the slit being removed as well as dumped in the designated place during both the shifts to ensure transparency in the nullah desilting, cited accounts. 

Moreover, on Thursday, April 14, the municipal commissioner inspected the underway nullah cleaning work at four locations. These included Mithi river's bank neat the BKC Connector and the Vashi Naka nullah amongst others. It has been reported that he was satisfied with the work underway. 

He was quoted in narratives elaborating on how the overall progress of the work is satisfactory, however, to fasten the work's pace, for the foremost time he has asked that the cleaning work be done in two shifts. He added that the work needs to be completed by May 31. 

Based on accounts, earlier on Wednesday, April 13, BJP Leader, Ashish Shelar met the BMC Commissioner and demanded that a task force be set up to supervise the nullah cleaning work. In the aftermath of this, the BMC declared that a zonal squad be formed under a deputy municipal commissioner. 

The squad has been asked to oversee the cleaning work and assess the problems seen by the staff to see to it that the problems are solved promptly. The additional municipal commissioners have been asked by Chahal to visit their areas to inspect the works.

On the other hand, the BMC took to Twitter to elucidate the instructions that have been issued to all wards. It further mentioned that the desilting and river cleaning works across Mumbai are in full swing.
