Mumbai Rains: BMC Commences Monsoon Works On War Footing

Amid the approaching rainy season, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been undertaking monsoon related work. In light of this, sludge removal work is presently underway in Mumbai's nullahs. On Thursday, April 14, BMC Commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal inspected these works. 

During Chahal's inspection, various nullahs were examined including the removal of silt from the Mithi river. The river's work in front of the Canara Bank office near the BKC Connector Bridge in the Bandra Kurla complex area was assessed. Additionally, the west side of the Mithi river near Dhirubhai Ambani School at Bandra (East) was also scanned.

In addition to Chahal, other concerned officials present included the likes of Additional Municipal Commissioner (Project) P. Velarasu, Deputy Commissioner (Infrastructure) Ulhas Mahale, Chief Engineer, Rainwater Harvesting Department, Ashok Mestri. 

Earlier this week, Mumbai suburban guardian minister, Aaditya Thackeray perused through the work for rainwater holding tanks at the St Xavier's Ground, Gandhi Market pumps and the tanks at Dadar. Thackeray took to Twitter to elaborate on how this is being done to avert flooding at Hindmata junction for at least 4 hours with heavy rainfall.

His tweet further read, "I'm thankful to the MCGM for accepting my humble request on this. We are also looking at creating such holding tanks in other low lying areas across Mumbai, such as Milan Subway, Juhu, Andheri etc"
