In the last couple of weeks, a lot of commotion has persisted over the issue of potholes in Mumbai. The potholes caused a lot inconvenience to the citizens and after receiving criticism from the people of the city, BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta finally took the matter into his own hands and got on the streets to ensure that the potholes are filled and the menace is fixed.

On Friday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner visited and inspected the potholes on the roads at Kurla, Chunabhatti, Chembur, Sion, Matunga, Dadar, Mumbai Central, Tardeo, Chinchpokli etc. in order to ensure that the potholes were fixed properly. The potholes were filled using Cold Mix this year. However, due to heavy rainfall, the Cold mix would get spilt on the roads and the potholes would stay untreated. This year, the Cold mix would be filled into the potholes using special equipment which would ensure that it doesn’t get spilt.

Potholes have been a matter of argument for the last 10-12 days in which several political parties criticised the civic body towards their attitude about the issue. Shiv Sena however, made sure that the authorities heard their concerns after they voiced their concerns in their own style. Radio Jockey Malishka once again took a dig at BMC with her new song, ‘Geli Geli Mumbai Khadyat’. Furthermore, the Supreme Court too lashed out at the municipal corporation about the same.

In response to Mehta’s 'road trip', opposition leader Ravi Raja made a sarcastic remark stating,

When the issue was discussed twice in front of Standing Committee, BMC did not pay any heed but after RJ Malishka made a song, the Commissioner himself rushed to the roads.”

NCP leader Rakhi Jadhav too exclaimed that the issue of potholes is serious and the Commissioner taking charge of the issue is a good thing. She also said that they believe that the problem of potholes will soon be over.
