LoP slams BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta over rooftop restaurant policy

BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta was slammed by leader of the opposition (LoP) Ravi Raja for approving the draft policy of rooftop restaurants. He accused Mehta of approving the proposal without considering corporators' suggestions and objections.

He also took a dig at the BMC commissioner and said that it will start a trend of announcing policies without taking corporators’ into consideration. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Manoj Kotak too second Raja saying that they will not entertain rooftop restaurants near residential areas. 

However, on the other hand, Adarsh Shetty, president of the Indian Hotels and Restaurants Association (AHAR) is happy with the BMC’s decision of approving the policy.

BMC passes a policy of rooftop restaurants

On Wednesday, November 1, 2017, the BMC approved the much awaited and controversial rooftop restaurant policy. Till now it was illegal and many such hotels were closed down by the civic body. But this policy will help hoteliers to extend their operational hours.

BMC guidelines suggest that the terrace should be open air without any umbrella or tarpaulin cover and one cannot construct a grilled fence around the terraces.
