In March this year, Maharashtra government implemented the state-wide plastic ban. However, it seems that the implementation of not using plastic bags failed as many people are still using plastic bags. 

It is believed that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Law Committee’s corporators will be visiting the North Eastern state of Sikkim to study its successful model of the ban.

Suvarna Karanje, Chairperson of the Committee, demanded that the tour of all members should be arranged from municipal funds. But, at the group leaders' meeting that took place on Monday, where the proposal was tabled, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in BMC, Manoj Kotak, said that such trips should be arranged with corporators paying for them. The proposal received a nod from political leaders.

On March 23,2018, the notification, brought under Maharashtra Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) Act, enacted in 2006, banned the manufacture, sale, transport, storage and use of plastic.
