Fishing in Powai Lake is banned under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s decision but there is no ban for catching fish with the help of fishing nets. Thus, the standing committee has demanded to ban the fishing nets as well.

Opposition leader Pravin Chheda, along with Shiv Sena Corporator Sadanand Parab, demanded a ban on the fishing activity by using the nets and the standing committee members also demanded that Powai Lake be declared as a 'Crocodile Park'. Former standing committee chairman Ramesh Kogavankar asked the administration to inform about the number of houseboats and permits in the lake.

Also, the opposition suggested banning the sewage waste being dumped into the lake. It was discussed that instead of an independent park for the crocodiles, the administration shall build a basking area around the lake. However, the administration clarified that the pavement work was postponed because of the Metro 6 construction.
