Ahead of the monsoon, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has to repair over 499 buildings in Mumbai. The most number of unsafe buildings are in the Andheri-Jogeshwari belt in K ward which has over 51 buildings followed by Vile Parle which has 38 buildings and those need to be demolished urgently.

Kurla has the maximum number of illegal buildings i.e. 83. As per the rules, if a building is damaged more than 40 per cent, then it has to go under redevelopment. However, court cases and people opposing it is a big issue for the authorities.

Every year, Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) prepares a list of dangerous buildings occupied by tenants before monsoon and tells them to vacate the building for reconstruction. However, due to the Lok Sabha elections, the survey has been delayed as most MHADA officers were on election duty.
