The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has finalised TPF Engineering as the consultant for Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project for a fee of ₹9 crore. The company will act as a supporting consultant and will create designs, make documents, check traffic count and assess the feasibility of one section of the GMLR project.

GMLR is one of the most ambitious projects, which was proposed back in the 1960s as an east-west connector. Since then, the city has had multiple connectors but the GMLR project was limited to paper. The BMC has now set aside ₹100 Cr for the project.

About GMLR

It is a 14-km road that will have a five-km stretch running through Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in the form of twin tunnels.

However, the BMC is worried about the possible bottlenecks near the entry and exit points of the tunnels. The civic body wants a consultant to improve the connectors and their chowks to prevent traffic jams. He will also be responsible for designing tender documents and project designs of three flyovers, traffic count of the areas for next 20 years, and designing a rehabilitation plan for the project affected people (PAP).
