The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (BMC) has imposed a fine of ₹50 lakh on the contractor responsible for delays in the flyover construction under the Goregaon–Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project.

The flyover is being constructed between Dindoshi Court and Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari. The action was taken following an inspection by Additional Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar.

The GMLR project is considered crucial for reducing traffic congestion between Mumbai’s western and eastern suburbs and for providing faster and safer connectivity. The civic body has set strict timelines to ensure timely completion of all works.

The flyover was originally planned to be completed before the monsoon and opened to traffic by May 31, 2026. However, due to slower-than-expected progress, penalty action was initiated. The flyover is approximately 1.26 km long, and about 75% of the work has been completed so far.

In the next phase of the project, advanced Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) will be used for constructing twin tunnels. The process of bringing high-capacity cranes to the site is currently underway. Preparations are being made to lower the TBMs underground by March 2026.
