The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has fined the Lalbaugh Cha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsava Samiti INR 72,000 for causing potholes during the Ganeshotsava festival.

According to the BMC's new policy, each pothole caused during the festival incurs a penalty of INR 2,000. This year, the Lalbaugh committee was found responsible for creating 36 potholes. That totaled to INR 72,000 in fines.

The potholes were discovered during a routine inspection by the BMC's F/South ward. The assistant engineer noted that these were caused by the erection of pandals and barricades for the festival.

In a report by HT, a committee spokesperson responded to the fine, stating that other mandals also host Ganeshotsava and erect roadblocks, but only their committee is blamed each year.

This is not the first time the Lalbaugh committee has been fined. They faced similar penalties in previous years, including a fine of INR 3.66 lakh last year. Since 2012, the committee has been fined a total of INR 23.56 lakh.
