Controversial Highway company bags a contract to construct cages for animals

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has handed the contract for construction of cages to the controversial messrs Highway Construction, that had built penguins' cages at Byculla zoo. The same company had submitted false documents to bag the same. Despite this, the company bagged the contract based on its work experience. For almost a year, the company was not entertained, however, BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta announced that the Highway company will be carrying out the construction work in Byculla zoo.

The first phase of renovating Penguins' cage in Byculla zoo was completed with the beautification of the area near the entrance gate. And now, environment friendly and transparent cages will be constructed for animals such as wolf, bears, koalas, tortoise, leopards, birds, etc. who will be added soon to the Byculla zoo.

The company will receive ₹76.34 Cr to construct cages in Byculla zoo and the proposal has been sent to the standing committee for an approval. As per the civic officials, the Highway company had efficiently constructed penguins’ cages, hence, despite submitting false papers, the same company bagged the contract.

The work of the contractor includes:

  • Animal's residence for the night stay
  • Constructing playground for animals
  • Constructing gallery to watch animals
  • Artificial ponds and lake
  • Fencing for birds
