Be it housing societies or state-run bodies, everyone to seek permission from the civic body before cutting off the extra branches for construction and project purposes. During monsoons, there is a high possibility of accidents as branches from trees fall on railway tracks, roads or BEST bus, causing inconvenience and putting people’s lives in danger.

In order to avoid mishaps, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has given permission to nine government-bodies such as Central Railway, Western Railway, BEST, Metro, Monorail, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Tata Power and Reliance Energy to cut tree branches when required.

BMC superintendent of gardens, Jitendra Pardeshi told Mumbai Live that said government-run bodies will not have the need to seek any permission from the civic bodies before cutting tree branches during monsoons. But in return, the state-run bodies will have to submit before and after photo of the tree, the branches of which will be cut off. Along with this, the organisations will also have to submit the report on the same within three months. Further, as a directive, the state-run bodies will be able to cut only those branches which can cause harm to people.

As per Pardeshi, the civic body will continue this procedure for the next three years. He also added that whichever organisation cuts tree branches will have to clear the tree waste by themselves.
